Reservations are very common in India the reason of imposing these reservations is decrease the social differences in the Indian society and to provide aid and support to the disabled or unprivileged, reservation is an act of withholding or keeping back for some special purposes. Some of the common basis of reservations is the caste, religion, geographic area which the individual belong, age,gender or physical disability etc.
Indian reservations are imposed to decrease the social differences between the rural and urban states are also reserved to some extent this is only to bridge the gap of difference and overall development of the country, reservation are decided by the help of surveys conducted and with the assistance of political and social leader as they represent the need of the people to the government.
Surveys are also conducted to help decide the reservations some of the surveys conducted in India are National Family Health and National Sample surveys are also conducted according to the Indian caste system and there are Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other caste(OC) The Indian government provides reservations in the Government and in public sector units.
Reservation are also provides to the educational institutions and especially for higher educationboth in the public and private educational institutions and in minority educational institutions especially for Backward Classes and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes. The central government of India reserves 30% of higher education, according to a decision of supreme court the Reservation cannot be exceeded 50% except in some states like Rajasthan who have proposed a 68 % reservation which includes a 14% reservation for forward castes Reservations are in favour of Backward Classes there is 50% reservation provided to the BC in employment and services and educational.
Some other common bases of reservations in India are Religion based reservations are also there to Muslims and Christians, thereby altering the OBC reservation depending upon the state policies.
Reservations for family members of Freedom Fighters and for children of the personals killed while fighting for nation, reservations for physically handicapped, reservations for sports personality’s reservations for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), reservation of pathways in places of worship, seat reservation for Senior citizens in Public transport, Gender based reservations.
